JANUARY BOOK PICK: FERVENT by PRISCILLA SHIRER

Not going to lie - EXTREMELY excited about this book. I read it two days. Then, the following week, I read it AGAIN. I have read some passages a dozen times already.

"You have an enemy . . . and he’s dead set on destroying all you hold dear and keeping you from experiencing abundant life in Christ. What’s more, his approach to disrupting your life and discrediting your faith isn’t general or generic, not a one-size-fits-all. It’s specific. Personalized. Targeted.

So this book is your chance to strike back. With prayer. With a weapon that really works. Each chapter will guide you in crafting prayer strategies that hit the enemy where it hurts, letting him know you’re on to him and that you won’t back down. Because with every new strategy you build, you’re turning the fiercest battles of life into precise strikes against him and his handiwork, each one infused with the power of God’s Spirit."

This book is EPIC and I am beyond ready to start reading and discussing it together. Over the next two weeks we are going to be reading and mapping out every section of the book. Together will will PRAY. We will build our BATTLE PLAN. If you haven't already join our Facebook Group. You will want to be a part of this.

I have been playing too nice with prayer. I pray here and there over my family. I thank God for my blessings. I ask him to help me when I'm having a hard time or to heal a friend. I'm great at praying over friends when they request them on Facebook.

I'm BAD at digging dig. Telling God my struggles. Letting him into the depths of my heart and soul. I'm afraid to let it all out and tell him everything. I'm afraid to admit my faults and short comings.

As I was reading this book I KNEW I needed it. I know once I start destroying all of the walls I have built up and take this prayer thing seriously my life is GOING TO BE CHANGED.

You don't have to be an expert in prayer to join us. I'm certainly not. You just need to be willing to open up and let God take control.

Are you ready for some specific, strategic, prayer, then pick up FERVENT and JOIN the Facebook Group. I will start posting on JANUARY 1ST!

2016 BOOK CLUB!

Are you ready to rock out the new year?

I am.

Every day is a fresh start. We should always look forward to a new morning.

It is a gift.

A chance to begin again.

I am beginning this year with BIG DREAMS.

I have been given an incredible opportunity to stay home with my children and be a full time mom/homemaker. It is a privilege most parents do not have. My dreams however don't stop at being a mom.

This blog is a BIG DREAM.

Having a place to share my journey, my life, and everything in between is so exciting.

BIGGER than this blog is my DREAM to HELP OTHERS. I want to help women, moms, business owners, find their passion and revive their life. I want to help those who are lost and wondering find a path. I pray by reading my words you will be moved to seek Jesus and build a foundation of faith that will change your life.

I created a space for all of us to connect on Facebook. It is a closed group so we will be free to pour our hearts out and cry out to Jesus. It will be a safe place to open up and be free from everything that holds us back. It will be a venue to help us learn from each other and grow together.

You can join the group here

Every few weeks we will also be discussing a new book within the group. I will post information on the blog, but we will dig deeper in the group.

Stay tuned - book announcement later today! I hope to see you in the group!

Day One: Building a Rock Solid Routine

It has been a busy few weeks around here. My husband has been traveling for work and that has left me, well, in charge of everything around here. When I last wrote we were discussing becoming more efficient and getting things done. This will surprise you considering the lack of posts here, but I have been working on doing just that.

In Chapter One of Manage Your Day to Day they cover:

  • Laying Groundwork for an Effective Routine
  • Harnessing the Power of Frequency
  • Building Renewal into Your Workday
  • Making Room for Solitude

The first step is to create a schedule for yourself. I stay at home with my kids every day. My "job" is to take care of them, the house, my oil business, and my blog. In order to get my raging to do list complete - I need a routine. Not just any routine, a realistic one.

I started building my daily routine by making a list of what is important to me. What do I need to accomplish everyday? What are my non-negotiables? Daily devotional time, exercising, and reading were my must haves. I also wanted to create time for working on my Young Living business and this blog. These five things typically get ignored since they only affect me. My world won't come crashing down if they don't get done, but ignoring my faith or creating some solitude will affect my soul and my attitude.

I added every item on my list to my Outlook Calendar. It looks a bit crazy, but it works. We each have a color and our every day activities are mapped out.

Does every day go as planned? Not in the least, but at least I have a plan. It is up to me to execute and follow through. My main objective every day is to be present in the activity at hand and to spend each minute with intention. Here are a few tips to creating a solid routine as suggested in the book.
  • Start with the rhythm of your energy levels.
  • Use creative triggers
  • Manage the to-do list
  • Capture every commitment
  • Establish hard edges in your day

I really liked what Gretchen Rubin said about frequency. She mentions doing activities every day makes them easier to do. I couldn't agree more. Working daily on something creates a habit. Once a habit is formed it is hard to stop, just ask me about my diet coke problem.

Remember this quote:

What I do every day matters more than what I do once in a while.

Apply this motto to all areas of your life. The weight you want to lose, the business you want to launch, the house that is never clean. I could go on and on.

I thoroughly enjoyed Chapter One. There were a lot of nuggets of information. I was able to commit to a schedule and create pockets of time to work on ME and the things that are important to me as an individual - not just for my family.

Do you have a schedule? How do you manage your routine?

How do you keep your creative juices flowing?

I would love to hear your thoughts on Chapter One and how you plan on implementing these techniques in your daily life. Comment on this post or join the Facebook Conversation.

Making Ideas Happen

This week I have been reading the book Manage Your Day-to-Day: Build Your Routine, Find Your Focus, and Sharpen Your Creative Mind (The 99U Book Series). Since I am now a stay at home/work at home mom it has come to my attention that I really need to get my stuff together. I am all over the place doing things, yet nothing is actually getting done. My to do list still looks the same as yesterday. What the?

I love this quote. "It's not about the ideas. It's about making the ideas happen." Personally I feel like I have ideas by the truck load. They range on their level of awesome. Some are down right ridiculous. Execution has always been my shortfall. My ideas mean nothing if I am the only one who knows about them.

This week we are going to learn how to make all of our fabulous ideas happen. We will be taking control of our chaotic lives and putting things in order. This book has opened my eyes to a lot of smart concepts for creating structure with a creative mind. Clearly that is the problem here, I'm just too creative to be organized, right? Ha!

Here's the schedule - see, already setting up some structure.

Day One: Building a Rock Solid Routine
Day Two: Finding Focus in a Distracted World
Day Three: Taming Your Tools
Day Four: Sharpening Your Creative Mind

Grab the book from Amazon so you can follow along. You will be inspired. Promise.

Before we get started take a little stock now.

How focused are you during the day? How many items get checked off of your to do list? Do you keep a schedule? Are you distracted easily?
